Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

Thousands of children in Israel grow up in dysfunctional or underprivileged families that cannot afford or are incapable or organising a festive bar or bat mitzvah ceremony for them.

Keren Hayesod – United Israel Appeal, in cooperation with the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, headed by the Chief Rabbi of the Kotel, has taken upon itself to arrange meaningful and exciting bar/bat mitzvah celebrations for these children and their families, so that they will not miss out on this important event in Jewish life.

The Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration takes place at the Kotel in Jerusalem and includes:

  • Transportation from all parts of the country to and from Jerusalem
  • A tour of the Western Wall Tunnels or the Southern excavations of the Temple Mount
  • A festive prayer service at the Western Wall Plaza complete with putting on tefillin and reading from the Torah
  • A festive meal in a nearby restaurant
  • A party with a musical performance

The bar/bat mitzvah celebration culminates in each child being presented with a beautiful, personalised certificate.

In recognition of your generosity, we can include your name, or the name of anyone you designate, on the certificate presented to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Children.
