Youth Futures
UIA’s focus in 2011 is ‘youth-at-risk’; youth, primarily aged 6-12, who struggle with everyday life, who come from broken homes and live below the poverty line. Through individually tailored initiatives, UIA, in a partnership with Keren Hayesod (KH) and the Jewish Agency currently assists over 10,000 disadvantaged youth in 32 localities along Israel’s periphery. What began 6 years ago as a pilot project has grown exponentially and with your continued support we can continue to:
- Strengthen the child’s self image
- Improve academic performance
- Improve social behaviour
- Increase access to community resources
The program personally focuses on every child and adolescent participant, while displaying consideration for his or her unique needs and talents. For this purpose, the children are counseled by “trustees” – personal tutors who accompany the children over a long and significant time. The trustees are young social pioneers who constitute role models for the children, and are capable of identifying the strong and weak points of the children whom they are fostering.
