Kibbutz Ulpan

Securing the future of New Olim

My experience on Kibbutz Tzuba, in the beautiful mountains of Jerusalem, has been very positive so far. I am meeting new immigrants from Russia, America, Bulgaria and Australia. There is so much positive energy as we are all building new lives in Israel. (Alice Kolatkar, new immigrant from India)

The Kibbutz Ulpan program, which operates in more than 30 Kibbutzim, is a successful program for adjusting young adult immigrants to their new homeland. The Kibbutz is a communal life style unique to Israel. Members work the land collectively, eat together and take care of the Kibbutz, with each member assigned a specific task. It provides young adults from ages 18-28, the opportunity to live in the supportive environment of the Kibbutz. The goal of the 5 month program is to provide students with a working knowledge of Hebrew, and to build a foundation for further study. It further gives participants the opportunity to learn about Israel, Jewish culture and the Jewish holidays through lectures, seminars and guided tours.

For many young participants, Kibbutz Ulpan is a life-changing experience. It is a catalyst for aliyah and a positive first experience in Israel. Many new immigrants continue to do their army service or to study in higher education frameworks upon completing Kibbutz Ulpan.
