Absorption Centres
When new immigrants first arrive in Israel, some without financial means or material possessions, they land at their “First Home in the Homeland” at one of the many Absorption Centres throughout the country. Operated by the Jewish Agency, through Keren Hayesod support, Absorption Centres provide the majority of new immigrants with a temporary, initial housing solution until they are able to rent or purchase their own apartment. These facilities provide a secure, sheltered environment in which new immigrants learn to take their first steps in Israel.
For vulnerable populations such as single-parent families, youth and students who come to Israel alone, Ethiopians, the elderly and new immigrants fleeing from countries in distress, Absorption Centres make the difference between a relatively smooth integration, and one fraught with material hardships. Although they vary widely in size, capacity and population, all of the Absorption Centres provide a holistic approach to integration that can provide a solid foundation for success.
