Amigour – Sheltered Housing for the Elderly

Living in Dignity

With the shortage of low-rent housing in Israel, Amigour, Israel’s leading operator of public and sheltered housing facilities provides vulnerable populations such as the elderly and new immigrants with affordable housing solutions.

Today, Israel’s population of senior citizens numbers approximately 600,000. Many live under or close to the poverty line and cannot afford to rent or purchase their own home. This problem is particularly apparent among the elderly immigrant population from the Former Soviet Union. Furthermore, 80% of Amigour residents are Holocaust Survivors.

Each individual/couple receives a subsidized small, well-maintained, and secure apartment that includes a living/sleeping area, kitchenette, and bathroom. Amigour facilities are run by dedicated staff that includes administrators, social workers and caregivers. Residents enjoy a wide range of activities that provide social interaction and enrichment such as Hebrew Ulpan classes and lectures, trips, visits to museums and the theatre, holiday celebrations, and much more. Medical care is also provided to residents.

For a nominal monthly fee, residents enjoy independent living while being part of a small, sheltered community. Amigour helps to better senior citizens’ quality of life and enhance their sense of personal worth allowing them to love a life of dignity.

Thanks to your support, there are currently over 7,500 seniors living in 57 Amigour Sheltered Housing Facilities.
