Kedma

Advancement Program for Ethiopian Young Adults

I have been in Israel for less than a year. Yet I feel that I am making incredible progress in becoming part of the society. The acceptance, assistance and support that I have received at the Kedma program are invaluable. (Yonas Shiferaw, new immigrant from Ethiopia)

Many Ethiopian young adults have significant academic potential, although they lack formal education. The challenge is to identify these motivated young adults and to invest in developing their potential. The Kedma program is an innovative program that addresses the considerable challenges inherent in the integration of this vulnerable population group.

Kedma is a year long absorption program that incorporates a targeted, holistic approach to the integration of Ethiopian immigrants aged 20-25, who have completed at least five to seven years of studies in Ethiopia. Kedma’s core study program consists of an intensive six month Hebrew Ulpan consisting of specific training programs and basic educational enrichment intended to prepare them for professional training programs or further academic study. The program exposes students to Israeli culture and society. Kedma is empowering Ethiopian young adults and creating a strong cadre of community leaders and role models for the Ethiopian community.
