Women’s Division Breakfast 2010
The 2010 Women’s Division Campaign Launch breakfast was held on Thursday 4th March with over 350 women attending. This year the function took on a fresh new look with a change of venue to the International of Brighton.
“What does Israel mean to you?” was the theme of the event, and the title of a specially created video which featured the thoughts and feelings of Melbourne’s Jewish women about Israel. The footage, which was both uplifting and moving, set the tone for a positive and inspiring event.
The first guest speaker was Mirla Gal, who held a senior managerial position in the securities services in the Prime Minister’s Ministry, for more than 20 years. She was then, from 2003 to 2006, the Director General of the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption, Israel. Mirla is currently the Chairperson of Fidel – Association for Education and Social Integration of Ethiopian Jews in Israel.
She shared with the audience the experience of being in government and in the security service and the challenges she faced during those years.
UIA Women’s Division have again chosen to support the Keren Hayesod-approved project Youth Futures.
The morning’s second speaker was Hila Amos, the Director of the Youth Futures Program in Kiryat Gat. She presented on her work with disadvantaged youngsters and spoke of how the money raised helps youth at risk. Her speech was accompanied by a presentation featuring 4 students whose participation in Youth Futures has improved their lives and provided them a second chance.
The event was a wonderful confirmation of the strength and unity amongst the women of the Melbourne Jewish community.
